Artist Statement

Beneath the layers and the patterns and colors in my work is a troubling message about plastic pollution if you choose to see it. I use the language of beauty to create sculptural works using a variety of media and processes. I have always been drawn to combining handmade paper, glass and metal throughout my career. My sculptural installations move between two and three dimensions using printed marks to create patterns by embossing plastic detritus I have gathered on beaches. The works emerge as I draw in space with the cut elements based on an idea that I have visualized in my mind. Over 20 years ago I began to collect articles about the warming of our oceans and its effects on our planet and am deeply concerned by the removal of “climate change” from all government documents and websites.
