Matt Giossi and Ron Kuhn Jr. are the craftsmen behind Giossi & Kuhn, a Providence-based design/build shop specializing in custom furniture. Matt, a Rhode Island native, spent over 14 years building and designing under renowned furniture maker Hank Gilpin, honing his skills in joinery, design, and woodcraft. Ron, after completing a year-long apprenticeship with Gilpin in 2013, stayed on to refine his craft, developing a deep appreciation for domestic hardwoods and traditional joinery. Together, they have a combined nearly 30 years of making under their belts, blending influences from Danish and Japanese design with a hands-on approach that values material knowledge, fine craftsmanship, and timeless construction. Outside the shop, Matt can often be found rock climbing in New England’s forest with his two children, while Ron enjoys hiking with his wife, Carrie, playing music, and illustrating.

Artist Statement
Giossi & Kuhn is a design/build shop specializing in custom furniture and interior work. Since 2015, we have created functional, stand-alone pieces and installations designed to be an integral part of everyday life. What sets us apart is our deep knowledge of the materials we work with — understanding how each wood species responds to shaping, joinery, and use. With experience in over 130 different species, we are always exploring new possibilities. Our expertise in hand shaping and traditional joinery allows us to craft forms beyond the limitations of machine work, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind pieces that cannot be easily replicated.
