Artist Statement

My work is deeply rooted in the use of intricate patterning, inspired by the rhythms and structures found in the natural world. Through detailed repetition and interwoven graphic elements, I seek to capture the harmony and balance that exists all around us, echoing the spiritual connection to nature that defined the Transcendental art movement in this country in the early part of the 20th century. Artists such as Agnes Pelton and Raymond Jonson approached art as a means of exploring the spiritual and universal forces within the landscape, using pattern as a language to express the energies and interconnectedness that bind us to the world and one another. Similar ideas are foundational to my own work. Painting is a sacred practice that connects me to my spiritual self and my own sense of divinity. Through the act of creating, I enter a meditative state where I feel in tune with something greater than myself that I experience as a flow of energy, connecting the physical and transcendent. The patterns, forms, and colors that emerge in my work are not just visual elements, but reflections of an inner dialogue with the divine.
