NetWorks Rhode Island and the Chazan Collection Exhibition, WaterFire Arts Center (2024) Bio:
I’ve always been drawn to objects. Initially it was the structure of furniture or historical architecture which led me to the world of sculpture. Throughout my career I’ve experimented with a wide range of materials always returning to a focus on clay and wood. Eventually, I gravitated towards clay as my main medium, finding it best suited for the ideas I want to explore until a point of divergence emerges, prompting me to search out new materials and techniques as ideas unveil themself. This cyclical process of exploration and experimentation is an integral part of my artistic methodology. It’s a continuous cycle of exploration, only to return to familiar ground with a fresh perspective. I studied sculpture with William Lasansky at Bucknell University and later transferred to RISD. I earned my MFA from the University of California, San Diego. Since 2006, I’ve been teaching at the University of Rhode Island. As an educator, I share my passion for sculpture while continuing to evolve my own artistic practice. My approach is grounded in the perpetual exploration of objects and the creative possibilities they offer in shaping artistic narratives.
