Julia Samuels was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and she earned her BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute in 2007. Samuels earned her MFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design in 2015, after which she founded Overpass Projects, a fine art print publisher committed to innovating contemporary printmaking techniques as well as amplifying under-represented voices. At Overpass Projects Samuels publishes her own work as well as collaborative editions that have been acquired by several collections including RISD Museum, National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Ford Foundation.

Artist Statement
Julia Samuels is a printmaker and works across multiple techniques. She has an extensive portfolio of landscapes produced in relief printmaking (woodcut and linocut) and this work focuses on a man-made influence on the natural environment. Her linocuts of Providence neighborhoods showcase the history and growth of the city through its complicated webs of transmission lines.
