Dodge received a BFA from the University of Arizona in 3D and Extended Media in 2013 and an MFA in Sculpture from RISD in 2015. She attended the OxBow School Of Art residency in 2014 and the SOMA Summer Program in 2015. She has held teaching positions at Wheaton College in Massachusetts and since 2017 teaches courses in RISD’s Sculpture department while working full time as a Senior Academic Technologist within the Sculpture Department Digital Fabrication Shops. Gail’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in cities including Taipei, Taiwan; Mexico City, Mexico; Oakland, CA; Tucson, AZ; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Baltimore, MD; Austin, TX; and Michigan City, IN.
Artist Statement
Gail Dodge (b. 1985, San Francisco) is a Providence-based sculptor. Her art practice is rooted in light hearted, exploratory approaches to researching and creating work — often twisting traditional making processes to make work that sits just outside the periphery of expertise or mastery. While her approach is light-hearted, her work is intent on reflecting a darker, more frenzied characteristic that underpins all Americana. A grimly amusing collection of fallout from the everyday neuroses of a human situated within hyper-consumerist purgatory.
