Betzy Cordon is a Guatemalan-American artist born and raised in Rhode Island, recently graduating from URI with a BFA. Ever since childhood, she found art to be enchanting; whether through drawing characters or crafting furniture for dolls. Now, Betzy creates whimsical, imaginative art that embraces and rekindles the joys of childlike wonder. Some of her influences include fairy tales, stories like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and the magical girl genre. Betzy’s works have been featured in multiple exhibitions, such as the URI Juried Student Show and the Providence Art Club College Exhibition. Recent awards include the Bart Parker Endowed Scholarship in Photography and the Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award from the URI Department of Art and Art History.

Artist Statement
My work explores the joys of retaining one’s childlike sense of wonder and imagination throughout life, regardless of age. Through fantastical elements and vivid colors, each piece acts as a window to another world. My work calls back to a happier, simpler time from childhood. It rekindles that childlike whimsy, reminding us of the stories we had grown up with ourselves; tales that once stirred our imaginations.
